BIST 100 Kicks Off the Week with Gains: Which Stocks Stood Out at Opening?

The BIST 100 index started the week with a 0.33% increase, reaching 10,108.92 points. Last week, a short trading period was experienced due to the New Year holiday, during which the stock index gained 0.50%, showing a positive differentiation among global markets.

The lower-than-expected inflation data announced in December strengthened expectations for an interest rate cut in January. This is seen as a development that helps the index approach the resistance level of 10,250 points. However, it is noted that the index has not yet broken through this level, which remains significant.

Sector performances were prominent last week, with the chemical, transportation, communication, paper, and electricity sectors being the top contributors to the stock index. Notably, the petrochemical sector transitioned into positive territory following the food sector in the December PMI data, drawing attention. The performance of these sectors was influential in the index's weekly positive differentiation.

As the new week began positively, sectors such as sports, electricity, and SMEs stood out in the opening. Construction, transportation, and cement started the day weak. Banks began the week with nearly a half-point increase.

The top 5 stocks that opened the day with the most gains in the BIST 100 are as follows:

  • TSPOR
  • MAGEN
  • CANTE
  • TMSN
  • ARDYZ

On the other hand, the stocks that opened the day with declines in the BIST 100 include:

  • AGHOL
  • TAVHL
  • CIMSA
  • AEFES
  • TTKOM

Across Borsa Istanbul, AKENR, RTALB, and INVEO surged to the ceiling price in the initial trades. EUYO, AVTUR, and PNLSN shares were among the biggest losers in the opening.

In the domestic currency market, the dollar/TL started the week steady at 35.36. Euro/TL traded at 36.55 with a 0.35% increase, while the price of gold per gram decreased by nearly half a point to 2,988 TL.

In global markets, Asian stock exchanges began the week with a downward trend. On the closing day of the previous week, there was a differentiated outlook in the US and European indices. In the first hours of the week, a positive trend was observed in US and European futures indices.
