Number of Oil Rigs in the U.S. Remains Steady for the Past Month
Foreks - There has been no change in the number of active oil and natural gas drilling rigs operated by energy companies in the U.S. over the past month. According to a report shared via email by Baker Hughes, the total number of oil and natural gas drilling rigs, which was 589 in the previous four weeks, remained the same in the week ending January 3, 2025. The number of rigs is 32 lower compared to the same period last year. The number of oil rigs decreased by 1 to 482, while the number of natural gas rigs increased by 1 to 103, with 4 rigs engaged in dual activity for both products. Of the rigs determining future projections for oil production, 573 were onshore, 14 were in offshore locations, and 2 were in inland waters. -Canada and the Gulf of Mexico- In the same week, the number of drilling rigs in Canada decreased by 1 to 94. The number of oil rigs remained unchanged at 44, while the number of natural gas rigs decreased by 1 to 50. In Mexico, the number of drilling rigs remained at 12, bringing the total number for North America down by 1 to 683.
