How Did Borsa Istanbul Kick Off the First Trading Day of the Year? Which Stocks Are in the Spotlight?

The BIST 100 index started the first trading day of the year at 9,858.10 points, up 0.28%. The BIST 100 closed at 9,830.56 points with a decrease of 0.6% on the last day of 2024. Thus, the index recorded a value increase of 30.34% throughout 2024.

As the new year begins, the index shows a slightly positive outlook, while BIST 30 stocks are experiencing more demand in the early hours.

In terms of sector performance, in the first hour, the sports, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME), and banking indices stood out with an increase of around 1%. In the broader Istanbul Stock Exchange, KRSTL, HEDEF, and ALKA stocks started the day with the highest gains. LIDER, AEFES, and SUWEN stocks were recorded as the biggest decliners at the opening.

In the domestic currency market, the dollar/TL remained flat at 35.34, while the euro/TL is trading at 36.64. The gram gold is seeing buyers at 2,995 TL, up 0.4%.

International markets began the new year with a predominantly downward trend. European indices, apart from Euro Stoxx 50 and DAX, closed positively for the year. Meanwhile, US indices experienced negative closures. In the morning hours, it is observed that US and European futures indices are moving upwards.
