ECB/Lagarde: 2024 Will Be a Dynamic Year, and 2025 Seems Just as Exciting!

Forex - European Central Bank (ECB) President Christine Lagarde stated, "2024 will be a dynamic year, and 2025 seems to be at least as exciting," expressing hope to reach the 2% inflation target by 2025.

In a video New Year message posted on X, Lagarde said, "We made significant progress in reducing inflation in 2024, and I hope that 2025 will be the year we reach our target, as expected and planned in our strategy. Of course, we will continue our efforts to ensure that inflation stabilizes sustainably at the 2% medium-term target."

Lagarde noted that consumer price growth in the Eurozone slowed throughout last year and fell below the ECB's target in September, but has increased again in recent months, warning that inflation is likely to fluctuate around current levels in the near term.

Describing the ECB's 2025 agenda as "big and heavy," Lagarde emphasized the review of the central bank's monetary policy strategy, the digital euro, and the redesign of eurozone banknotes.
