Syria's New Leaders Appoint a Woman to Head the Central Bank
Forex - Syria's new leaders have appointed a woman to head the country's central bank. Government spokespersons confirmed on Monday that Maysaa Sabrine, who served as the first deputy governor during the ousted regime, will lead the institution. Sabrine will be the first woman to manage the bank and is one of several women appointed to senior positions by former rebels currently in control of Damascus. Diana Rayes, a non-resident researcher at the Atlantic Council's Syria Project in Washington, stated, "Such decisions are being closely monitored by Syrians both inside the country and in the diaspora, as they indicate the priorities and direction of the caretaker authority."
