IMF Executive Board to Review Argentina's $44 Billion Aid Program Next Month
Forex - The International Monetary Fund (IMF) Executive Board is expected to review Argentina's current $44 billion assistance program next month. For Argentina, the largest borrower of the IMF, this review represents a crucial step for the Milei administration to reach a new agreement. Earlier this month, an IMF spokesperson stated that negotiations with Argentina are already underway. Officials from the Milei government indicated that this could involve new funding.
During the meeting scheduled for early January, the Executive Board will evaluate a staff report regarding Argentina's agreement with the IMF made in 2022. Sources mentioned that the Executive Board will conduct an examination known as an ex-post evaluation, assessing the design and implementation of the assistance program. Such an evaluation is a standard procedure for countries receiving exceptional access credits, which are loans that exceed IMF's normal lending limits.
