Investigation Launched to Extend Safeguard Measures on Imports of Flat Glass from Iran

The Ministry of Trade has decided to initiate an investigation to extend the safeguards applied to the import of flat glass originating from Iran. The relevant communiqué from the Ministry of Trade has been published in the Official Gazette.

Accordingly, a preliminary examination was conducted regarding the application made by Türkiye Şişe ve Cam Fabrikaları for the import of flat glass from Iran. As a result of the examination, it was decided to open a safeguard extension investigation to investigate the impact of the current safeguard measure on domestic production, assess whether domestic producers have made progress in adapting to competitive conditions, and determine whether it is necessary to extend the existing safeguard measure.

To prevent the emergence of irreparable damage that could arise from imports until the investigation is completed, a temporary safeguard measure will be implemented for 200 days starting from December 12, 2024. The temporary measure has been set as an additional financial obligation of "36 US dollars per ton."
