Daglıoğlu: Early-Stage Tech Startups in Turkey Attract Approximately $1 Billion Investment
Foreks - Platin, which celebrates 26 years of success under the motto 'Turkey's Most Dynamic Monthly Economy and Business Magazine', has awarded companies that successfully represent our country in the Global 100 index internationally, focusing on the theme of “Technology Integration” in accordance with the results of the research it conducted in collaboration with the independent market research company Ipsos.
The Platin Global 100 Awards 2024 took place with the attendance of Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır and the President of the Presidential Investment Office Burak Dağlıoğlu.
The awards were sponsored by Halkbank (IS:HALKB) and Ziraat Bankası as the main sponsors, with co-sponsors including Betim Enerji, Gün Güneş Enerjisi, Rönesans Enerji, and Zivella, while Turkish Telekom (IS:TTKOM) acted as the communication sponsor, and the event was broadcast live on 24 TV. During the ceremony, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır, President of the Presidential Investment Office Burak Dağlıoğlu, and Platin Magazine Editor-in-Chief Oya Yalıman made statements.
In her opening remarks at the seventh Platin Global 100 Awards, Platin Magazine Editor-in-Chief Oya Yalıman stated, “We are going through a very important period where ‘Technology Integration’ increases growth and competitiveness in the business world. Digital transformation not only enhances businesses’ efficiency, but also allows them to manage their operational processes more quickly and accurately. Technologies such as artificial intelligence reshape business processes, enabling the emergence of more flexible and innovative business models. Businesses and leaders that can effectively utilize technology and artificial intelligence can take more solid steps towards the future, having the ability to quickly adapt to changing market dynamics. The theme of technology integration has become a necessity, not just an option.”
Burak Dağlıoğlu, in his speech, stated, “This year, early-stage technology initiatives in Turkey received approximately 1 billion dollars in investment. Of this, 270 million dollars was invested in artificial intelligence and related fields. We are on the right track.” He added that “It is very valuable for our country’s competitiveness in this area for you to become larger investors in technology entrepreneurship through venture capital funds and similar structures.”
Following the award ceremony, Dağlıoğlu spoke to 24 TV, saying, “Turkey continues to create employment and maintain its competitiveness in exports. Amid global uncertainties, we see Turkey positively distinguishing itself. The Republic of Turkey continuously produces policies to increase the integration of technology and supports companies with incentives.”
Expressing that Turkey is a regional economic actor, a production center, and a research and development hub, the President of the Presidential Investment Office stated, “In the century of Turkey, we aim to make Turkey a global economic power center.”
Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacır made remarks at the seventh Platin Global 100 Awards Ceremony. Minister Kacır emphasized, “We will continue to place high-tech production at the center of our growth and development journey and build the future with this understanding,” highlighting global competitiveness. He also indicated his desire for companies to be active players in the global market. Kacır pointed out that recent pandemics, geopolitical tensions, regional conflict situations, and instabilities worldwide have rendered global supply chains fragile and stated, “We are witnessing that the established free trade rules in international trade have been abandoned by the very founders of the current order, and protectionism is on the rise. Countries are turning to technology development infrastructure and policies that will enable value-added production to ensure sustainability in this uncertain environment.”
Kacır noted that efforts to preserve economic gains and achieve strategic independence have led to escalated trade and technology wars, stating:
“Despite such an uncertain investment environment and difficulties in international trade, Turkey’s production and export journey continues to advance successfully along its own course without interruption. Under the leadership of the Turkish industry, we have increased our exports from 36 billion dollars to 262 billion dollars over the past 22 years. Our share of exports in the world has risen from 0.55% to 1.07%. It is as if we have added another Turkey on top of Turkey. After China, Turkey is the country that can export the highest number of products competitively to the most countries in the corridor extending to Central Europe. Of course, these successes and achievements are not coincidental. These gains have been realized with the solid foundations we have laid in every field over the last 22 years under the leadership of our President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, along with strong, planned policies, and the political and economic stability achieved.”
