Free Internet Era Begins at Train Stations
The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that they will provide free internet services at train stations. He stated that the application will first start at Ankara Gar and Eryaman YHT Gar, and that the service will be expanded to all train stations.
Minister Uraloğlu announced that they have taken an important step in line with the digitalization vision within the Turkish State Railways (TCDD). He declared the launch of the TCDD Wi-Fi Project, aimed at facilitating daily life for citizens and modernizing railway services, which will offer free and unlimited internet access at train stations.
The pilot application will begin at Ankara Gar and Eryaman YHT Gar. Minister Uraloğlu noted, "After the pilot application results, we aim to expand this service to all our train stations. Our citizens will gain safe and fast internet access thanks to this modern infrastructure."
He also mentioned that the service starting in Ankara is planned to be expanded to Konya, Karaman, Eskişehir, Bilecik, İzmit, Gebze, Pendik, Bostancı, Söğütlüçeşme, Halkalı, Kırıkkale, Yozgat, and Sivas stations in succession.
The Minister expressed that the project is aimed not only at providing internet access but also at transforming TCDD stations into social living spaces. He stated, "Our passengers and visitors will be able to easily carry out their transactions with fast and secure internet connectivity. This application, which will greatly facilitate business, education, and travel planning, aims to make waiting times at our stations more comfortable, allowing our passengers to spend their time efficiently in these areas. We are keeping pace with the digitalizing world and aiming to provide the best services to our citizens through modernization efforts in the transportation sector."
Minister Uraloğlu emphasized that the project will make a significant contribution to Turkey’s digitalization and human-centered transportation strategy, saying, "This project strengthens our citizens' digital rights by increasing access to information. Additionally, it reinforces TCDD's modern and innovative identity. Such projects not only save time but also support economic mobility."
He further noted that this service would help TCDD stations evolve beyond mere transportation points into social and digital living areas. Uraloğlu remarked, "What is important for us is to ensure that our citizens have access to the best services in every area. The TCDD Wi-Fi Project is a strategic step taken in line with these goals. We will continue our efforts rapidly to expand our project."
