Agricultural Production in 2024: Decline in Field Crops, but Growth in Fruits and Vegetables
Forex - Production quantities for field crops, specifically grains and other plant products (excluding forage crops), decreased by 5.0% in 2024 compared to the previous year; vegetables increased by 5.6%, while fruits, beverage, and spice plants rose by 2.1%.
According to the statement, approximately production quantities stands at 75.5 million tons for grains and other plant products, 33.6 million tons for vegetables, and 28 million tons for fruits, beverages, and spice plants.

Grain production decreased in 2024 The production quantities of grain products in 2024 decreased by 7.5% compared to the previous year, amounting to approximately 39 million tons.
Compared to the previous year, wheat production fell by 5.5% to 20.8 million tons, barley production decreased by 12.0% to 8.1 million tons, rye production dropped by 15.7% to 257 thousand tons, oat production declined by 4.9% to 390 thousand tons, and corn production decreased by 10.0% to 8.1 million tons. In the dry legumes group, chickpea, dry bean, and red lentil production were 575 thousand tons, 279 thousand tons, and 405 thousand tons, respectively. Among tuber crops, potato production increased by 21.1% to 6.9 million tons compared to the previous year. Soybean production from oilseeds increased by 30.9% to 180 thousand tons, while sunflower production decreased slightly by 0.1% to approximately 2.2 million tons. Sugar beet production decreased by 8.9% to 23 million tons.
Vegetable production increased in 2024 The production quantity of vegetable products rose by 5.6% in 2024 compared to the previous year, reaching approximately 33.6 million tons. Among vegetable group products, production increased by 9.9% for tomatoes, 1.2% for dry onions, and 21.1% for bell peppers; however, production decreased by 6.9% for cucumbers, 0.6% for hot peppers, and 5.0% for white cabbage.
Fruit production increased in 2024 The production quantity of fruits, beverages, and spice plants increased by 2.1% in 2024 compared to the previous year, amounting to approximately 28 million tons. Within the fruits group, apple and strawberry production decreased by 4.0% and 10.4%, respectively, while pomegranate and grape production increased by 10.1% and 2.0%. Citrus fruits such as mandarin, orange, and lemon saw production declines of 32.7%, 30.3%, and 25.6%, respectively. Among hard-shelled fruits, production increased by 10.3% for hazelnuts, 18.3% for walnuts, and 117.6% for pistachios. Banana production decreased by 5.9%, while olive production rose by 146.7%.
Ornamental plant production decreased in 2024 The production quantity of ornamental plants decreased by 6.1% in 2024 compared to the previous year. Cut flowers accounted for 69.5% of ornamental plant production, while other ornamental plants made up 30.5%. Compared to the previous year, cut flower production decreased by 0.1%, and production of other ornamental plants dropped by 17.4%.
