The Ministry of Trade has announced the extension of the 6-month - 6,000-kilometer advertising restriction regulations for an additional 6 months until July 1, 2025.

In the statement regarding the extension of the 6-month - 6,000-kilometer advertising restrictions, it was mentioned: "Our ministry continues its efforts to eliminate speculative price formations and hoarding activities in the automotive market and to re-establish a fair, competitive, and stable market structure in the sector.

In this context, regulations have been implemented stating that with the “marketing and sales restrictions,” motorcycles, cars, and off-road vehicles engaged in the trade of second-hand motor vehicles cannot be marketed or sold directly or indirectly until 6 months or 6,000 kilometers have passed since their first registration date, and with the “advertising restriction,” second-hand motor vehicles cannot be marketed at a price exceeding the recommended current selling price set by the manufacturer or distributor until January 1, 2025.

To date, approximately 52 million TL in administrative fines have been imposed on car dealerships and auto galleries under the 6-month - 6,000-kilometer regulation, and approximately 90 million TL has been imposed on those violating the advertising restrictions.

In this regard, considering the benefits of the 6-month - 6,000-kilometer and advertising restrictions in combating speculative price increases in the automotive sector, hoarding, preventing unfair commercial gains, and eliminating consumer grievances, our ministry has decided to extend these regulations for another 6 months until July 1, 2025.

Accordingly, the sales of second-hand motor vehicles by those engaged in the trade with a second-hand motor vehicle trade certificate, as well as all real or legal persons selling three or more second-hand motor vehicles without a certificate within a calendar year, will continue to be blocked by notaries in violation of the 6-month - 6,000-kilometer regulation.

On the other hand, with the amendment made in the "Regulation on the Basic Principles of Tariff Application in Mandatory Financial Responsibility Insurance for Motor Vehicles," published in the Official Gazette, the Insurance and Private Pension Regulation and Supervision Agency (SEDDK) has been authorized to determine the minimum duration of traffic insurance contracts to be concluded by businesses holding a second-hand motor vehicle trade certificate. In this context, it has become mandatory for businesses selling second-hand vehicles to obtain a minimum 60-day traffic insurance starting from February 1, 2025.

As the Ministry of Trade, our efforts to ensure price stability and establish a fair and balanced market structure through the regulations implemented in motor vehicle trade will continue diligently, and additional measures will be taken if deemed necessary."
