Average Gross Earnings Per Capita Reached 26,402 TL Monthly in 2023

In November 2023, the gross minimum wage was set at 13,414.5 TL. According to earnings statistics, the monthly average gross salary per person amounted to 23,789 TL. Male employees received an average gross salary of 24,011 TL, while female employees earned 23,344 TL.

According to the announcement by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK), the monthly average gross earnings per person was recorded at 26,402 TL. For male employees, the average gross earnings per month was 26,638 TL, whereas for female employees it was 25,931 TL.

The average hours worked per month was 200. Males worked an average of 205 hours, while females worked 190 hours.

The average hourly gross salary was 119 TL. Male employees earned an average of 117 TL per hour, while female employees earned 123 TL.

The annual average gross earnings amounted to 305,784 TL. For males, this figure was 314,242 TL, and for females, it was 289,720 TL.

Individuals with higher education attained the highest earnings. It was observed that earnings levels increased with education status among both genders. The highest annual average gross earnings were recorded for individuals with higher education, reaching 431,364 TL for males and 354,149 TL for females.

The highest annual average gross salary was also for those with higher education, amounting to 364,370 TL for males and 301,073 TL for females.

The finance and insurance sector recorded the highest earnings. When examining the gross earnings of employees across various economic activities, the highest annual average gross earnings were found in finance and insurance, at 640,739 TL. This was followed by information and communication with 605,317 TL, and culture, arts, entertainment, recreation, and sports activities with 461,514 TL.

The lowest annual average gross earnings were observed in accommodation and food service activities at 213,518 TL, real estate activities at 218,815 TL, and other service activities at 227,284 TL.

Female employees in transportation and storage earned an average gross income of 414,502 TL, while in the production and distribution of electricity, gas, steam, and air conditioning, they earned 453,413 TL, both surpassing the annual average gross earnings of male employees in these sectors.

According to the economic activity (NACE Rev.2) classification for 2023, qualified agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers recorded the lowest earnings. The highest annual average gross earnings, reaching 538,530 TL, were for managers, followed by professionals at 409,767 TL. The lowest annual average gross earnings were for qualified agricultural, forestry, and fishery workers at 202,809 TL.

The gender pay or earnings gap was in favor of males across all education levels. The largest gap, at 20.0%, was seen among high school graduates, while the smallest gap, at 14.9%, was among those with elementary education and below. When calculated based on annual average gross salaries, the highest gap was 17.4% among higher education graduates, with the lowest gap being 13.2% among elementary education graduates and below.

In terms of occupational groups, the highest gender earnings gap was among artisans and related trades at 23.5%, followed by technicians, technologists, and other associated professionals at 22.9%. The lowest gaps were found among managers at 2.0% and service and sales personnel at 7.2%.

The profession-specific gender pay gap was highest among professional occupations at 21.1%, followed by plant and machine operators and assemblers at 20.3%, along with artisans and related trades, also at the same rate. The lowest gaps were among managers at 1.8% and unskilled occupations at 6.4%.
