Istanbul Stock Exchange Starts the Day with Gains: Which Stocks Led at Opening?

The BIST 100 index started the day with an increase of 1.80%, reaching 9,846.39 points. In yesterday's trading, the BIST 100 index closed at 9,672.75 points, with a gain of 0.48%. During the day, the index saw a low of 9,562.36 and a high of 9,690.44 points, and it is currently at a level of 274.45 dollars in dollar terms.

Yesterday, 56 stocks in the BIST 100 gained value, while 39 stocks lost value. The total trading volume of the index was 60.5 billion TL, accounting for 69.54% of BIST's total trading volume. The positive trend was maintained in the initial trades of the BIST 100, with BIST 30 stocks leading the way with an average value increase of over 2%. Meanwhile, the index outside of the BIST 100 saw an increase of less than 1% in the first hour.

Last night, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission held its fourth meeting to determine the minimum wage for the year 2025. The commission decided on a new minimum wage of 22,104 TL. This decision appears to be welcomed positively in the stock market. Additionally, the market has shifted its focus to the interest rate that will be announced tomorrow after the determination of the minimum wage.

Following the decision for a lower-than-expected increase in the minimum wage, expectations have risen for a rate cut by the Central Bank of the Republic of Turkey (CBRT) tomorrow. The market is closely watching the CBRT, which has kept the policy interest rate at 50% for the past eight months. Market participants anticipate a 150 basis point cut by the Central Bank this week, lowering the policy interest rate to 48.50%.

In Istanbul Stock Exchange, among these expectations, the sector that saw the highest increase at the opening was banks, which rose by over 3.5%. Commercial and cement stocks also showed significant increases in the initial trades. No sectors were in negative territory at the beginning of the day, with textile, insurance, and technology stocks receiving the least demand.

The stocks that began the day with declines in the BIST 100 included:

  • KTLEV
  • PAPIL
  • MPARK
  • TURSG
  • BRYAT

Throughout the Istanbul Stock Exchange, the stocks CGCAM, SURGY, and SMRVA were the biggest gainers at the opening. SANFM fell to its base price, making it the largest decliner, followed by BRMEN and ETYAT.

In the domestic currency market, the dollar/TL increased by 1.4%, reaching 35.27, while the euro/TL also rose similarly to 36.7. Gram gold saw a slight decrease of 0.15%, trading at 2,953 TL.
