Apple Seeks to Join Google's Antitrust Case in the U.S., Reuters Reports
Investing.com -- Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has shown interest in participating in Google's (NASDAQ:GOOGL) upcoming antitrust trial, Reuters reported on Tuesday. According to the report, the tech giant indicated that it cannot rely on Google to protect the revenue-sharing agreements that generate billions of dollars for Apple annually. These agreements are based on the decision to make Google the primary search engine in Apple's Safari browser.
Apple's legal team confirmed on Monday that the company does not intend to create its own search engine to compete with Google, regardless of whether these payments continue or not. It was reported that Apple's agreement with Google generated an estimated $20 billion in 2022. According to the report, Apple is willing to bring witnesses to the trial, which is scheduled for April. Additionally, prosecutors in the case are expected to argue that Google needs to make several changes, including selling its Chrome web browser and possibly the Android operating system, to restore competition in the online search sector.
