Supermarket Sales in Japan Increased by 3.5% in November

In November, following a decline in October, the sales of chain stores in Japan recovered. According to a statement by the Japan Chain Stores Association (JCSA), sales in November increased by 3.5% compared to the same month last year, based on comparable data. There had been a 1.3% year-on-year drop in sales the previous month. Compared to the previous month, sales showed a 4.2% increase, raising the total revenue of chain stores to 106.7 billion yen.

In terms of supermarket sales, there was a year-on-year decline of 5.5% calculated without accounting for changes in the number of stores. On a year-on-year basis for comparable data, food product sales increased by 5.0%, while clothing products rose by 0.2% and home goods saw a 7.6% increase. The figures are based on prices from 9,307 stores operated by 47 companies. The number of stores increased by 11 compared to the previous month, but decreased by 1,515 compared to the same month last year.
