Ukraine Receives $3.4 Billion in Additional Budget Aid from the U.S. - Yellen
According to Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's announcement on Monday, the United States has provided an additional $3.4 billion in budget assistance to Ukraine. This aid aims to offer critical resources to Ukraine, which continues to face increasing Russian attacks against its civilians and infrastructure.
Yellen stated that the direct budget assistance, coordinated with the U.S. Agency for International Development and the State Department, represents the latest payment under the 2024 Ukraine Security Supplemental Appropriations Act.
A U.S. official noted that with this latest funding, the total U.S. budget assistance to Ukraine since Russia's invasion in February 2022 has exceeded $30 billion. Most of these funds are used to sustain the operations of the Ukrainian government, including the payment of salaries for teachers and other public workers.
In addition to budget assistance, President Joe Biden announced on Monday that Ukraine will receive an additional $2.5 billion in security assistance. This security assistance is a separate item from the direct budget aid.
