Foreks - Garanti BBVA (BME:BBVA) achieved its highest score on the ESG assessment platform, earning a remarkable score of 85 in the 2024 S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). With this assessment, the Bank has once again reinforced its position as having the highest score in the Turkish banking sector, as it has in previous years. Additionally, it secured the 15th highest score among 668 financial institutions assessed globally.
One of the most reputable platforms evaluating the sustainability performance of corporate firms worldwide, S&P Global-CSA serves as a significant reference point in the decision-making processes of international investors. During S&P Global's assessment process, institutions are thoroughly examined in areas such as business ethics, governance, financing activities, environmental and social performance within the organization, risk management, climate change measures, transparency, and human and employee rights.
Garanti BBVA's General Manager Mahmut Akten stated, “Since the early 2000s, we have been active in sustainability and define sustainability as one of our strategic priorities. In this context, we are taking important steps for the transformation of our Bank and all our stakeholders, especially our customers. Our commitments to phase out coal and being the first bank to join the United Nations Net Zero Banking Alliance are just a few of these steps... Sustainability encompasses all actions we take in governance, environmental, and social matters. Therefore, we address the issue comprehensively, from gender equality to energy efficiency, from increasing financial literacy to the circular economy, integrating it into our business practices. The recognition of our efforts by an international, impartial platform like S&P Global-CSA, along with achieving a record score of 85, is an indication that we are on the right track. The expectations of international ESG assessment platforms from institutions are increasing each year. Therefore, continuous development is necessary for the sustainability of success. In this year's assessment, we made improvements in several different areas, including financed emissions, financial inclusion, and managing emerging risks. As a result, we achieved an 11-point increase compared to last year. The recognition of our transparent and sustainable business approach by S&P Global-CSA, one of the most respected evaluation organizations in the international arena, is of great importance to us for the strong relationships we have with our stakeholders. Alongside the support and consultancy we provide to our customers through our products and services in sustainable finance, we will continue to advance our ambitious goals to contribute to sustainability in every aspect.”
