RENEWAL - Karesi Polyester and Petrochemicals Achieve 'Special Industrial Zone' Status
Foreks - Karesi Polyester and Petrochemical Industry Inc., operating with its production facilities located in South Marmara, has been granted the status of 'Special Industrial Zone' following the Presidential decree published in the Official Gazette regarding investments in the Bandırma petrochemical facilities.
Karesi Polyester and Petrochemical Industry Inc., which is part of the Karesi Group, one of the pioneering organizations in the textile sector with approximately 41 years of experience and an innovative approach, has been awarded the 'Special Industrial Zone' status. The Karesi Polyester production facilities located in the Gönen district of Balıkesir are expected to make significant contributions to the economic development and employment both in the region and in the Turkish economy by attaining this status.
The decree, signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and published in the Official Gazette, states, "It has been decided to declare the area located in the Gönen district of Balıkesir Province, shown on the attached map, as the Balıkesir Special Industrial Zone of Karesi Polyester and Petrochemical Industry Inc., in accordance with Article 4/C of the Law on Industrial Zones No. 4737."
Turkey's dependency on petrochemicals and textiles will be reduced. Having stepped into the industry in 1983 with warp production in Bursa and rising to a leading position in the sector through investments in products such as polymers, yarns, fabrics, dyeing, knitting, printing, twisting, and fancy yarns, Karesi Group operates in textile, chemistry, energy, and recycling fields. The group contributes to local and national production with a total polyester yarn production capacity of 350,000 tons and over 6,000 personnel and R&D centers.
The granting of 'Special Industrial Zone' status to Karesi Polyester and Petrochemical Industry Inc., which operates in the Gönen district of Balıkesir and is preparing for a public offering, will also contribute to the group's goal of 'domestic and national production,' enhancing global competitiveness. Projects aimed at reducing Turkey’s dependence on imports in the petrochemical and textile sectors are planned to be implemented at production facilities built on an area of over 2 million square meters using advanced technology.
It has become the fourth organization to be granted 'Special Industrial Zone' status in 2024. The 'Special Industrial Zone' application developed by the Ministry of Industry and Technology aims to transform the national economy into an internationally competitive structure, facilitate technology transfer, increase production and employment, accelerate foreign capital inflows, and create suitable industrial areas for large-scale investments, especially in terms of production costs.
Within the scope of this application, investments in strategic areas such as petrochemicals, electricity production, fertilizers, iron and steel, unmanned aerial vehicles, pharmaceuticals, automotive, defense, and space industry have been supported. Karesi Polyester and Petrochemical Industry Inc. also became the fourth organization to receive the 'Special Industrial Zone' status in 2024.
