Honda and Nissan Allegedly Moving to Deepen Ties, Including Possible Merger
Reportedly, Honda and Nissan have been in discussions to deepen their relationship, including the possibility of a merger. The talks, first reported by the Nikkei newspaper, aim to foster greater technological collaboration between the companies and help Honda, the country's second largest automaker, and Nissan, the third largest, become stronger domestic competitors against Toyota.
The discussions are said to focus on finding ways to strengthen cooperation and may include the possibility of establishing a holding company. According to one source, the companies were also exploring the full merger option and ways to collaborate with Mitsubishi Motors, in which Nissan holds a 24% stake as the largest shareholder.
Sources indicated that Honda, Nissan, and Mitsubishi have not announced any agreements, but Nissan stated that the three automakers had previously discussed potential collaboration opportunities for the future.
