Italy Acquires 24 Eurofighter Jets for €7.5 Billion

The Italian Parliament has approved the purchase of 24 Eurofighter jets for 7.47 billion euros (7.85 billion dollars) for the Italian Air Force. In July, the Italian government issued a decree indicating its intention to buy the jets to replace 26 aircraft that will be retired starting in 2028. Yesterday, both the Italian House of Representatives' Defense Committee and the Italian Senate's Foreign Relations Committee voted in favor of the decree, allowing the purchase to proceed. This move is positive news for the four European defense companies behind the jets' production: BAE Systems, Airbus, Leonardo, and Spanish Indra Sistemas. According to the decree, the agreement between the Italian government and the Eurofighter consortium includes the purchase of the new jets and logistical support.
