CMB Sets Date for Lifting Short Selling Ban on BIST 50

The Capital Markets Board (CMB) announced that the ban on short selling for the stocks included in the BIST 50 index will be lifted as of January 2, 2025. According to the statement based on the CMB's decision dated December 5, 2024, numbered 62/1863, the ban on short selling will only be lifted for the stocks within the BIST 50 index. The announcement also highlighted the regulations introduced for the markets where short selling restrictions are lifted. Accordingly, in compliance with Articles 24 and 28 of the CMB Communiqué Series: V, No: 65, it will be mandatory to use the short selling button for positions that are sold without being owned during the day and are closed on the same day. It was emphasized that investors and investment institutions should be informed about this matter. These regulations highlight the need for investors and market participants to be cautious and follow the relevant procedures.
