Capital Markets Board Lifts Short Selling Ban on BIST 50 Stocks Effective January 2, 2025

The Capital Markets Board (CMB) has decided to lift the short selling ban in Borsa Istanbul's equity markets, effective from 02/01/2025, limited to the stocks included in the BIST 50 index. According to the announcement from the CMB, it has been decided to inform investors and investment firms that, in transactions conducted in the equity markets where the short selling ban is lifted, pressing the short selling button is mandatory for positions that are sold without being owned during the day and are closed within the same day, in accordance with Articles 24 and 28 of the CMB's Communiqué Serial: V, No: 65 regarding Margin Trading, Short Selling, and Lending and Borrowing of Capital Market Instruments.
