Freeport Indonesia Projects Production Increase in Manyar by Q3 Next Year

Freeport Indonesia, the copper miner, is reported to expect an increase in operations at its $3.7 billion Manyar smelting facility in East Java in the third quarter of next year, following the suspension of activities due to a fire that broke out in October.

Company spokesperson Katri Krisnati stated, "The start of operations at Freeport's smelting facility is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2025, depending on the repair plans for the affected facilities."

Operational issues at the smelting facility have led Freeport to request an extension of its copper concentrate export license from the Indonesian government, which is set to expire at the end of this year.

The lengthy production delays at the Manyar smelting facility, which has an annual production capacity of 480,000 tons of copper cathodes, are already tightening the anticipated metal surplus in 2025, thereby supporting prices.
