Akbank's $100 Million Green Financing Support
Akbank (AKBNK) has emphasized its commitment to the net zero strategy by providing $100 million in green financing for Enerjisa Enerji Üretim’s (ENJSA) 750MW wind power plant (WPP) investment.
In a statement regarding the matter, Akbank General Manager Kaan Gür said, “Our goal as Akbank is to provide 800 billion TL in sustainable financing by 2030. As of the third quarter of 2024, we have reached 352 billion TL. We are proud to sign another deal that highlights our commitment in this area with the $100 million green financing we provided to Enerjisa Üretim.”
Gür continued with his remarks:
“Since 2016, we have only financed renewable energy production projects in the energy generation sector. We have focused on increasing capacity, hybrid, and self-consumption plant investments to reduce dependency on external sources. Today, the share of renewable energy in Akbank's total energy portfolio has reached 76%. With our innovative and sustainable financing solutions, we will continue to invest in Turkey's economic and environmental future.”
The total financing amount for the WPP project is $1 billion and is being executed with the support of major financial institutions, including U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC), Proparco, JPMorgan (JPM), HSBC, KfW IPEX-Bank, and Deutsche Investitions, along with Akbank. The plants planned to be established in the Aydın, Balıkesir, and Çanakkale regions are expected to generate 2.51 TWh of electricity annually. The investment aims to increase Turkey’s renewable energy capacity, enhance domestic production in renewable energy technologies, and create employment opportunities. This investment by Enerjisa Enerji Üretim is also of great significance in terms of occurring within the framework of the YEKA WPP-2 Model of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey.
