Nine Volkswagen Plants to Strike

IG Metall union announced that workers at nine Volkswagen automotive and parts factories across Germany will go on strike for several hours on Monday, leading to a halt in assembly lines due to a conflict between workers and management over the future of the automaker's operations in Germany.

Thousands are expected to gather at the automaker's headquarters in Wolfsburg.

Protests are also anticipated at the Hannover factory, which employs approximately 14,000 people, as well as at other parts and automotive factories such as those in Emden, Salzgitter, and Brunswick.

The union proposed measures last week that it claimed would save 1.5 billion euros, including waiving bonuses for 2025 and 2026, which were rejected by the largest car manufacturer in Europe. Volkswagen has argued that it needs to reduce costs and increase profits to maintain its market share, demanding a 10% wage cut.
