ITO President Avdagiç: Steps to Maintain Competitiveness for Exporting Sectors are a Top Expectation of the Business World

Forex - Şekib Avdagiç, the President of the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce (ITO), stated that “the industrial and investment data significantly affected by the tight monetary policy in the third quarter indicate that it would be beneficial to transition into a new phase in 2025 where ‘reforms prioritizing production and exports’ will play a leading role.”

In a post on the social media platform X, Avdagiç evaluated Turkey's economic growth of 2.1% year-over-year in the third quarter of 2024. He noted that the 0.8% growth in exports during the third quarter remaining in positive territory and contributing 2.2 points to growth was received positively.

"The steps to maintain the competitiveness of the sectors focused on exports are the primary expectation of the business world,” he added.

Avdagiç remarked, “In 2025, particularly the steps to be taken and measures to be implemented to ‘maintain the competitiveness’ of exporters and export-oriented sectors are the primary expectations of the business community. The industrial and investment data, especially affected by the tight monetary policy in the third quarter, also indicate that transitioning to a new phase in 2025 where ‘reforms prioritizing production and exports’ will play a leading role would be beneficial. As we always emphasize at the Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, the main and largest support for a lasting decrease in inflation will come from production, employment, exports, and investments. Thus, we can gradually progress towards our targeted stable growth rates with the strength of production.”
