Canada's Antitrust Watchdog Sues Google Over Ad Business

The Canadian antitrust watchdog has filed a lawsuit against Google (NASDAQ: GOOGL), claiming that the company engaged in anti-competitive behavior in its online advertising business and is demanding that the company sell two of its advertising technology services and pay a penalty. The Competition Bureau stated that such action was necessary due to findings in an investigation that revealed Google was "illegally" tying its advertising technology tools together to maintain its dominant market position. The matter is now proceeding to the Competition Tribunal, a semi-judicial body that hears cases related to violations of the Competition Act, as initiated by the Competition Commissioner.
