Turkish Airlines to Launch Istanbul-Sydney Flights Starting Tomorrow
Foreks - The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, announced that Turkish Airlines will launch two new flights to Australia and Chile. Minister Uraloğlu stated, "Starting tomorrow, Istanbul-Sydney flights will commence. With the Istanbul-Santiago flight, THY (IS:THYAO) will also operate flights to Chile for the first time."
He noted that flights to both destinations will be scheduled four days a week, saying, "With the addition of Sydney, our flight network, which reaches 348 destinations, will increase to 349 with the start of Santiago flights."
Uraloğlu recalled that in line with Turkish Airlines' request to begin flights to Sydney, the General Directorate of Civil Aviation held discussions with many countries to determine transit points. He mentioned, "We have reached an agreement with Malaysia. Starting tomorrow, THY's Istanbul-Sydney flights will include a stop in Kuala Lumpur. After launching flights to Melbourne this year, THY will start flying to Sydney, providing service to a second destination in Australia."
Planned Flights Four Days a Week
The flights from Istanbul Airport will take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, Uraloğlu said. "The plane will first stop in Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Malaysia, for refueling. After spending 70 minutes there, it will continue to Sydney. The first flight will take off from Istanbul Airport at 13:15 and will land at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport at 16:30 the next day. The aircraft departing from Sydney will take off at 20:40 and will arrive at Istanbul Airport at 10:15 the following day."
"THY Will Operate Flights to Chile for the First Time"
Minister Uraloğlu confirmed that starting December 18, 2024, THY will operate flights on the Istanbul-Santiago route four times a week, stating, "Our national flag carrier, THY, will make flights from Istanbul to Chile via Sao Paulo, Brazil, completing its journey by arriving in Santiago, the capital of Chile. Thus, THY will operate flights to Chile for the first time."
He added that the flights from Istanbul would take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, continuing, "The aircraft with a stop in Sao Paulo will depart from Istanbul at 20:35 and will arrive in Santiago at 09:45. For return flights, the aircraft will depart Santiago at 11:40 and will land at Istanbul Airport at 11:20. With the commencement of Santiago flights, our flight network, which reaches 348 destinations with Sydney, will increase to 349."
