Chairman Gönül: Short Selling Ban May Not Last Until 2025

The President of the Capital Markets Board (CMB), İbrahim Ömer Gönül, announced that efforts are underway to lift the short selling ban in the stock market. According to reports, Gönül stated, "Let's establish the technical infrastructure; we will lift it in a short time. It may not last until 2025." The short selling ban implemented following the earthquakes on February 6 is still in effect at Borsa Istanbul. Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek mentioned in a speech at the Brookings Institution that they are considering lifting the short selling ban on the BIST 50.
