Anglo American to Sell Coal Business to Peabody Energy
Foreks - Anglo American (JO:AGLJ) announced that it has reached an agreement to sell its metallurgical coal business to Peabody Energy. The sale is expected to be completed for approximately $3.775 billion in cash.
Upon completion of the deal, there will be an upfront payment of $2.05 billion, $725 million deferred, and additional incentives based on coal price targets and the reopening of the Grosvenor mine.
The transaction is expected to be finalized in the third quarter of 2025.
Peabody is considering increasing its metallurgical coal production from an estimated 7.4 million tons in 2024 to 21 - 22 million tons by 2026.
