Israel and Lebanon on the Brink of Ceasefire Agreement - Axios

According to information provided to Axios by two senior Israeli and two U.S. officials, Israel and Lebanon are on the verge of a ceasefire agreement that would end the Israel-Hezbollah conflict. The draft ceasefire agreement includes a 60-day transition period during which the Israeli army would withdraw from southern Lebanon, the Lebanese army would be stationed in areas close to the border, and Hezbollah would relocate its heavy weapons north of the Litani River. Israeli and U.S. officials state that the U.S. has agreed to provide a letter of assurance to Israel, which includes support for Israeli military operations against imminent threats from Lebanese territory and actions to prevent Hezbollah from re-establishing a military presence near the border or engaging in heavy weapon smuggling. Under the agreement, Israel will undertake such military action after consultations with the U.S. and if the Lebanese army fails to neutralize the threat.
